Vandana- The case of another princess (2008)
Just a year back or so we had a case of a prince whose name was also ironically Prince, who fell into a man hole. We had T.V. camera men, media photographers and a whole lot of journalists who had flooded the site. It was glamorized as if a mega movie was being shot and the hero was stuck whole in the hole of the final scene. Do not get me wrong, I appreciate the cause but not the add-on. India is a country of a billion people where such events happen in regular plethora. If we are to cover such events in the media and that to by such an extravagant extent than the quality of our dynamic media is surely put to question. As media it is expected of it to cover all major events to the right extent and put forth the exact picture for the public at large. The rescue attempt made to save Vandana is by far a congenial act and is thoroughly cherished. It is also cognitive of the media’s ability to reach the place of news and is expected that it is put to better use. There are various socio, political and global issues which could be addressed; there are stories of unsung heroes, actions of bravery and deeds which are less known; they are by far more significant and ought to have their share of media. If in future such events are repeated (which is highly undesirable) then it is preferred that they be covered in right proportions and not be glamorized at all.
It is a little dated. The case speaks on a kid stuck in a man hole and it's media coverage.
