From King to Nazgul. From Nazgul to King??

Once a great king. So humble and malice less he was. Never offended, never aggressed. Lived life on a set of principles. Did not heed for power, had no carving for it. Still knew that rules of society were made by those who possessed power and followed by the rest. He made no rules but for himself. He never imposed. But as all good things are eyed and so was his rule. Soon he found himself surrounded by voracious folks. Soon he realized he had to change.

He did change. Power was what was required to protect and with power he assailed. Plundered the best, attacked the resists. Threatened at the tip of the sword; either it was his way or the sword’s. Blood was what he had to save of kin and bloody his hands became. He lost his love to the Lord of Denial; his character was such that he never had a duel with the Lord. He went ahead for greater power, rampaging all that came his way. He did change for the must but the change went uglier. He broke rules and those who stood in his way. Power lured him now. He is now known as the Nazgul. The question that persists is that, Will the king ever return?

Indian Idol - 2004 Diary event

Indians Idle
Sab Ko Rula Day

Yes I am talking about the subject Indian idol. Idol by the word means icon, star, pinup & deity but idol now means to me “Idiot Doing Onstage Lalabai”.  I had also viewed the program & voted for it. Luckily I received 4 passes to watch them live & unluckily I went to watch it. I got hold of passes of Indian idol dated 15th February 2004. I went there & was one of the victims. The time stated on the pass was “6 p.m. sharp & we reached well before the time at half past five prime meridian. As customary we waited in the line for about fifteen minutes, but the line remained still as a silly old bark of a tree. Getting impatient we tried to get ahead and have a look of what’s erroneous. As we tried to get ahead some men came and asked us to remain patient as they told us their guru mantra, “Patience is a virtue”. In the fast world of technology I asked myself “Is patience a virtue?” and remained still as again.
Minutes converted into an hour & and an announcement was made that the seats were all full and they couldn’t accommodate even one of us. The masses upon their emotions cried aloud “Please sir, get yourself into our position & you would understand us better”. On this the bright fellow came two steps down with a cigarette in his hand & smoked some out. He then replied “Here by I come in your position and make my reply that I am going home”. He then asked the security to drive us out of the gates. A number of people along with me were still standing outside the gate imagining them to take us in. Even a ray of light in a darkened room of sorrow means a lot. We waited another hour outside the gates but all was in vain since there was nothing to gain. With sorrowful hearts and dejected emotions we departed. We were now dubious. We asked to ourselves “Are Indians really idle?” Or “Are such men our idols?”

Of course this won’t be published in ToI; Indian Idol is a advertising revenue generator for them.

Vandana- The case of another princess (2008)

Just a year back or so we had a case of a prince whose name was also ironically Prince, who fell into a man hole. We had T.V. camera men, media photographers and a whole lot of journalists who had flooded the site. It was glamorized as if a mega movie was being shot and the hero was stuck whole in the hole of the final scene. Do not get me wrong, I appreciate the cause but not the add-on. India is a country of a billion people where such events happen in regular plethora. If we are to cover such events in the media and that to by such an extravagant extent than the quality of our dynamic media is surely put to question. As media it is expected of it to cover all major events to the right extent and put forth the exact picture for the public at large. The rescue attempt made to save Vandana is by far a congenial act and is thoroughly cherished. It is also cognitive of the media’s ability to reach the place of news and is expected that it is put to better use. There are various socio, political and global issues which could be addressed; there are stories of unsung heroes, actions of bravery and deeds which are less known; they are by far more significant and ought to have their share of media. If in future such events are repeated (which is highly undesirable) then it is preferred that they be covered in right proportions and not be glamorized at all.

It is a little dated. The case speaks on a kid stuck in a man hole and it's media coverage.
